Supporters of Mr. Obama immediately sought to portray Mr. McConnell’s remark as the latest example of a Republican Party more committed to obstructing the president’s agenda and defeating him in 2012 than in governing the country. Prior examples include Senator Jim DeMint of South Carolina saying that if Republicans could stop Mr. Obama on health care, “It will be his Waterloo.”...........
Republicans, in turn noted that Mr. Obama has dedicated a substantial amount of his professional time in recent weeks to bashing the Republican Party, raising money for Democratic Congressional candidates and deploying all of his political resources to preserving the Democratic majorities in the House and the Senate. “The Republicans took Americans’ car and drove it into the ditch,” Mr. Obama often says.
Mr. Gibbs suggested that whatever the outcome in the elections he believed voters want officials in both parties to cooperate and he chided Mr. McConnell and Republicans for blocking legislation in the Senate the last two years........
“Our job should be to work together to move this country forward to strengthen our economy and to improve the lives of its citizens” Mr. Gibbs said, adding: “We have had over the past two years enough game-playing to satisfy ourselves for many political lifetimes. It shouldn’t take two extra months to get a small-business tax cut and a small-business lending package through the United States Senate.”.........
Don Stewart a spokesman for Mr. McConnell said that limiting Mr. Obama’s tenure in the White House was the top political goal but that Republicans had other policy priorities.
“Ending the Obama administration’s liberal agenda as soon as possible is Senator McConnell’s top political priority” Mr. Stewart said. “The American people are clamoring for a focus on jobs and righting our economy. Instead for two years the president and the majority in Congress have veered off to the far left and pursued their own liberal wish list agenda. Americans have been speaking out they want us to stand up for them and fight the wasteful Washington spending, stop the massive growth of the debt create a better environment for job growth and repeal and replace the health spending bill, and that’s Senator McConnell’s focus for the next two years.”...........

Alaska Senate Candidate Once Disciplined for Computer Misuse

A news by yahoofreeshop:Joe Miller the Republican Senate candidate from Alaska, was disciplined for using three co-workers’ computers for political purposes and initially lying about it when he worked as a part-time lawyer for the Fairbanks North Star Borough in 2008, personnel records released on Tuesday under a court order showed.
“He maintained the whole time that he did not violate the computer use policy and that actually all of us did for not securing our computers,” Jill Dolan, a lawyer for the borough and one of the colleagues whose computers was used, said in a written statement on March 13, 2008, the day after the incidents.....
Ms. Dolan said Mr. Miller had eventually told her he was using the computers to vote with “different URLs” in an online poll about the state’s Republican Party chairman, Randy Ruedrich, whom Mr. Miller wanted removed......
“I told him the door was locked and he was a confidential employee and we shouldn’t have to worry about him using our computers,” Ms. Dolan wrote. “I explained to him that I am not a political person and that I did not appreciate him injecting me into his mess by making it look like I voted in some poll to oust Ruedrich.”....
Mr. Miller cleared Internet cache files from each of the computers. He also used his own computer to participate in the poll and then cleared his cache.
After initially lying about the computer use, he eventually admitted to it in a letter to his supervisor, Rene Broker the lead borough attorney......
“I acknowledge that my access to others’ computers was wrong participating in the poll was wrong, lying was wrong and there is absolutely no excuse for any of it” Mr. Miller wrote to Ms. Broker on March 17. “I accept whatever punishment you feel is appropriate.”
He was placed on administrative leave that lasted for about two weeks and then punished with the loss of three days’ pay. He was also placed on probation for six months, ordered to complete employee counseling and to “work hard to rebuild the co-worker relationships that were harmed” because of his actions....
According to the notes of a conversation made by Ms. Dolan, who spoke by telephone with Mr. Miller at the time he said that his actions had been “beyond stupid,” that he had been under stress and that he was having marital problems in part because he was “too flippin’ busy.”.....
Mr. Miller also ran a private law practice while working 20 hours a week for the borough. Although Mr. Miller has said he drew the bulk of his income from his private practice, the borough job provided health care benefits for his family. He and his wife, Kathleen, have eight children. Records of the disciplinary action show that Mr. Miller was concerned how the handling of the matter could affect his health coverage. It was unclear whether it had any impact.......
Mr. Miller is in a tight race with Senator Lisa Murkowski a Republican who is running as a write-in candidate and Scott McAdams, a Democrat......
Mr. Miller initially refused to address reports that disciplinary action had been taken against him while he worked for the borough though he later acknowledged some elements of the case. He fought efforts in court by Alaska news media outlets to obtain the records. A judge ruled against him on Saturday. The documents were released on Tuesday after Mr. Miller declined to appeal.....
Portions of the documents released Tuesday are redacted, including most of a page at the beginning of Ms. Dolan’s statement Some comments later in the statement that are not redacted do not have clear context.....
At one point in her statement after discussing her conversation with Mr. Miller about his use of the computers Ms Dolan said she had “asked him more about the threats that he had received but he said he could not tell me.”
A spokesman for the Miller campaign did not immediately respond to a request for comment about information in the documents.
Mr. Miller resigned from the borough in September 2009 and he has said the disciplinary action did not play a role in his decision to leave.....
But his supervisor and colleagues were clearly concerned about other aspects of his conduct in the weeks before his resignation. In one instance they questioned whether a case he was working on in his private practice might represent a conflict with his work for the borough. They also appeared to question the legitimacy of an apparent medical excuse he gave for taking leave shortly before he resigned.....
When Ms. Broker later asked a computer specialist to extract files and e.mail from Mr. Miller’s computers she was alarmed to learn that Mr. Miller had deleted years of e.mail she said would have included public records......

House Conservative Caucus Strongly Encourages ob Applicants To Fill Out Ideological Questionnaire

In an email passed to the Huffington Post by a congressional Democratic aide Jonathan Day, a senior adviser to Congressman Tom Price (R-Ga.) and the RSC asks recipients interested in a host of jobs to send their resumes through the RSC website. At the bottom of the email however Day writes that the office "also strongly encourage[s]" applicants "to submit your résumé and complete the ideological questionnaires at the following two websites.".........

The links offered are those to the site conservativejobs.com and a job-bank page hosted by the Heritage Foundation. The latter asks applicants for their position on a host of issues including whether "free trade benefits U.S. consumers," whether the "U.N. should not have authority over the citizens or public policies of sovereign nations," and whether "people should be able to invest a portion of their Social Security payments in a personal account.".............
Additionally the Heritage questionnaire asks applicants to rate public officials and organizations in terms of sympathy for their viewpoints. Former Vice President Al Gore the NRA Supreme Court Justice Clarence Thomas Sen Dianne Feinstein and the National Organization of Women are listed for rating.
It's not clear how much stock RSC puts into these ideological questionnaires. A request for comment from Price's office was not immediately returned. But in his email Day noted that he and others "will be checking these questionnaires" when filing through applications.........
how rare it is for offices to apply a type of ideological litmus test to prospective staffers is also not entirely clear. The practice is more often than not done informally as Republicans and Democrats tend to prefer to work with well, Republicans and Democrats respectively. Filling out questions to determine where an applicant stands on the philosophical spectrum is in some ways a more cost.effective version of bringing that applicant to the office to ask him or her specific issue.oriented questions.
But RSC is a government office. And in passing along Day's email to the Huffington Post the Democratic aide made the point that if Democrats or President Obama were caught performing the practice hell would break loose.......

Let’s back up a little. All last week a long and tedious negotiation was underway to reform arbitration awards. On Thursday Lou Greenwald Sheila Oliver and Stephen Sweeney held press conference to announce that they had reached a deal on an arbitration bill. The Gov didn’t like it because it had no hard cap like Republican Declan O’Scanlon’s bill does. OScanlon and Greenwald had been meeting with Chief Counsel Jeff Chiesa to hammer out a deal everyone could live with. When those negotiations fell through the Dems cut their own deal and went public..........
On friday I’m told that a Republican lawmaker called Essex County Executive Joe DiVincenzo who works hand.in.hand with Big Chief Steve Adubato from Newark’s North Ward. When this Republican gave him a bit of a hard time Joe D hit the phones.....
Fast forward to Monday’s Democratic Assembly Caucus. When Oliver tests the room to see if there are enough votes to move Greenwald’s arbitration bill the entire Essex delegation tells her no.Bill is shelved. The Democrats once again appear in disarray.
The unions say hey we were against this from the beginning…this latest crumble has got nothing to do with us. Dems thought they had the votes but the Gov’s reach runs deep in the county of Essex which lived up to it’s mantra of Essex First......
I think it was the 80′s hit The Breakfast Club where Mr. Vernon warned a young Judd Nelson not to mess with the bull or he’ll get the horns. The horns are awfully sharp in Essex these days..........

R.I.P!Paul, The World Cup's Psychic Octopus

After passing away peacefully during the night of natural causes, Paul will be remembered for predicting the winners of all Germany's World Cup clashes, and then the final by selecting Spain over the Netherlands. Just before each game, the Octopus would choose one of two boxes, each loaded with a mussel food treat and marked on the outside with one of the teams. (He also made an enemy in Iran's president, Mahmoud Ahmadinejad.)

Staff at the aquarium center where he lived said his death was not entirely unexpected, since common octopuses generally only live a few years. Paul's body is now in cold storage while the aquarium decides "how best to mark his passing." "We may decide to give Paul his own small burial plot within our grounds and erect a modest permanent shrine," said Stephan Porwell, manager of the Oberhausen Sea Life Centre in Germany. However, Paul's fans need not despair–his aquarium is said to be grooming a successor, also to be named Paul. (Even though, chances are, he won't be psychic.) Mel Gibson Will Testify in Child Custody Battle

Oksana Grigorieva's lawyers finally snagged a sit-down interview with Gibson, though the deposition will only involve their child custody battle over Lucia.

In other words, domestic violence allegations against him are off-limits.

Mel will finally give his side of the story. Sort of.

"Mel's team agreed to have him sit for the deposition November 1," a source said. "Mel will decline to discuss the alleged assault on Oksana, citing his Fifth Amendment right against self-incrimination given the active police investigation."

Oksana Grigorieva - already in crisis after their family law specialist quit on Sunday - is facing even more obstacles behind the scenes, as she feels she does not have a qualified lawyer who can interrogate the Oscar-winning actor/director.

Her lead attorney, Martin Garbus, is unable to practice in California after a judge rejected his pro hac vice motion last week, as Radar Online reported.

Oksana's other lawyer, Lisa Bloom, will be in London to speak before the House of Commons on climate change on the same day Mel is being deposed.

Given Garbus' inability to be admitted in California, and Bloom's scheduling conflict, it is unclear who is going to take Mel's deposition, sources report.

Daniel Horowitz is her only attorney available.

Oksana's lawyers have been trying to schedule a deposition with Mel since August after he missed two dates due to his vacation with his children.

However, a Los Angeles judge ordered Mel to submit to the attorneys' questioning before another judge and gave him a November 10 deadline......

Atmospheric shot of the ruins of Dorset has been selected from thousands of entries depicting urban and rural landscapes and secured a £ 10,000 prize for the photographer Spencer Anthony.

Other images allocated for the recognition of winning shots in the Isle of Eigg Scotland, urban areas and Romney Marsh in Kent.
This year the awards are held in conjunction with Network Rail and Government conservation agency Natural England. Two special categories were included in the competition as a result.

“Landscape on the verge of” Natural England has won the award Slawek Staszczuk for his painting the South Downs, and “lines in the landscape of Network Rail’s prize went to Chris Howe’s shot from Grindleford station in Peak District National Park.
Helen Phillips, executive director of Natural England, said: “The extraordinary collection of this year, captures images of a huge variety of landscapes in this country, and helps us appreciate the role they play as a natural support system – filtration and storage of water, fertile soils of the castle in climate change, carbon, absorbing flood waters and buffering coastal storms.
“Awards a reminder of how our precious landscapes and it is important that we look after them.

Young Landscape Photographer of the Year “for persons under the age of 16 years, went to Taliesin Coombs for his image of a steam train leaving the station in Cardiff Wales, contest organizers said.

Take a View – Landscape Photographer of the Year award in his fourth year, and are based photographer Charlie Waite, to mark the landscape photography of Great Britain.

More than 100 of the best images will be displayed in a free exhibition at the National Theatre in London on 22 November, while the book contains more than 170 entries were published on October 31.
