A news by 4usnews:Months of the year are determined in our minds in different ways. June, hot sun and the days spent at the lake in December for the holiday and the family of May for graduation, and flowering trees and a gray November, outstanding beards on the faces of men.
This phenomenon, known as “No Shave November,” or, as the Urban Dictionary says, “the month of November, in which you do not shave any body hair, but instead you become more savage, rough and manly.”
The origins of this craze is controversial, but it has become a staple for men in many colleges across the country.
“It was a chance to make something of himself. At school we had to have short hair and shave all the time and it was the first chance I have of school to do what I wanted to do,” accounting junior Colton Howell said. “I started immediately after the freshman year, Halloween, and I do not cut my hair or shave almost until February. He got a pretty nasty after a while.”
One potential place of “No Shave November” probably got its start in 2003 in Melbourne, Australia. Inspired by women who had worked hard to combat and raise awareness of breast cancer, a group of people decided to do something to create a movement for global health men. This is something attended growing a mustache during the month of November to raise awareness and funds for cancers that affect men worldwide.
The word “Movember” was coined, and in accordance with the Web site Movember, global engagement for the cause and more than a million donors raised $ 42 million global partners in Movember beneficiary in 2009.
As instrumental as Movember was to raise funds and awareness for men’s health, the majority of students who participate in the events of November this just for fun, or as an excuse to grow a thick beard and get away with it.
Accounting senior Danny Green will participate in his first “No Shave November” this month because it is reason to escape from the typical clean-shaven face, he became accustomed to.
“I like the rugged look. Clean cut is not my style, and it is a good occasion to look strong,” Green said. “Plus it’s getting colder, and he will keep his face warm....
As much as college men use a razor blade in a ditch for 30 days, it does not always go well with women.
“I’m doing it again this year, but this time I have a girlfriend, and she did not necessarily like the idea,” said Howell. “My mom hates the beard, too, she was the reason I did last year, No Shave November.
Greene, however, seems to think his woolly person will not deter the opposite sex.
“My mom tells me what to look for more clean-cut for work, but I think the ladies will love it,” Green said...
