This year, there are innovations made to the New York Marathon in oder to reduce overcrowding at the starting line. There will be three wave starts to produce about 15,000runners. In total 45,000 runners will be accepted for inclusion in the race. Each wave will have an interval of 30 minutes each. Runners will gather in what is called the start village at Fort Wadsworth, Staten Island this morning. These villages are located outdoors and may be damp and cold, so warm, water-resistant clothing is recommended.
